My Go To Health food/Supplements
These are some of my staples I have on rotation. Natural, minimal additives, preservatives or synthetic ingredients are the criteria for what I choose, because after all supplements are meant to be good for you.
Lemon water
I like to use frozen lemon juice cubes (removes the barrier of extra prep time and things to wash)
Vitamin C
Immune support
Liver health
Gut + Skin Health
These supplements/foods below support the connective tissues such as our skin and joints, our hair and nails, as well as the lining in our stomachs. If the stomach lining is compromised from things like excessive stress, too much bad foods etc, it affects our ability to digest and absorb nutrients.
Either marine or bovine based. Make sure you mix it in with a smoothie, yoghurt etc. Whilst it is technically “flavourless”, it does have a slight smell + and taste if it’s not blended with other things. I find it unpleasant, but is easily overpowered, so you won’t even know it’s there.
Made from slippery elm powder, so it’s plant based and oh so soothing on the stomach lining. If your gut is in a state of disarray, this can be a good starting point to repair the damage, especially if you get unpleasant symptoms from probiotics.
Oh and did I mention it’s pink?
Either in liquid form or in a jar of concentrate. It will make your food taste amazing. It’s an easy addition to your hot lemon water (if your using the concentrate)
Probiotics
I remember my first lesson in probiotics when I was a kid. It came from my cousin. She explained to me that there are millions of little bugs that live inside yoghurt, that are so small, that even if you look really closely, you won’t be able to see them. But it’s ok to eat them because they are important for your health. Kombucha, kefir and fermented vegetables are other food/drink sources of this nutrition essential.
The Beauty Chef are hands down my favourite health products. When it first came out, I brushed it to the side and thought, “do I really need yet another trendy, expensive supplement” but then I tried it and realised I was wrong. It’s has not only the looks, but the sustenance to back it up. The aesthetics, colours, flavours and only nice, good for you ingredients. Vegan friendly.
I can say this pretty but powerful powder + elixir duo makes a noticeable difference in clearing away acne from my skin.
Essential Fatty Acids
These make you pretty and smart. They support skin, brain + nervous system health.
Either fish oil or evening primrose oil are my go to’s
I love EPO. I was told to take it by a TCM doctor ages ago, and do see the results in my skin. This supports so men’s health and hormone balancing.
Fish oil has a slightly different fatty acid profile (a topic I will leave for the nutrition pros to discuss in more detail). Quality is important with any sea food product due to the pollution in our oceans. Words like “wild caught” or arguably, “sustainably sourced” are usually good indicators of better quality products.
JSHealth + Bioceuticals are what I normally use.
